ASSISTANCE FOR MUSICIANS OF AFM LOCAL 77

by Philadelphia Musicians' Relief Fund

The Philadelphia Musicians' Relief Fund offers critical economic and social support to musicians in need.

Founded at the start of the coronavirus pandemic by a committee of the Philadelphia Musicians’ Union Local 77 American Federation of Musicians, the Philadelphia Musicians' Relief Fund provides assistance to musicians in times of crisis. We help with expenses like medical bills, insurance premiums, instrument repair or replacement, and more. While we have made it through the worst days of the first lockdown, many musicians are still struggling. The sense of public urgency around COVID-19 has waned and the appetite for streamed performances abated. This changing landscape dictates a shift in focus and purpose for the PMRF. We aim to increase our offering beyond micro-grants of $500 to $1,000 to offer a broader complement of referral and support services.

Independent gigging musicians are the most vulnerable members of our community. Approximately 86% of our membership are freelance workers who perform with Philadelphia Ballet, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Opera Philadelphia, The Academy of Vocal Arts, Walnut Street Theatre, The Philly POPS, in local jazz clubs, at weddings and other social events, and other venues. This means their income is predominantly per-service. When musicians are ill or injured, or if those services are interrupted, they don't get paid.

Please help us expand our programming and build a sustainable resource for the benefit of Local 77 musicians now and well into the future.
